Floating and Sinking

We have been doing some experiments in Class 1P.  Today we were finding out about tings that float or sink.
We all thought that the ball would float and it did.
What a surprise when the peedie drawing pin sank right to the bottom of the bucket.

Some of us thought that the timer would sink but surprise surprise it floated on the top.

That wooden dice felt heavy but it floated.  I wonder why.

The big pair of scissors sank and so did the little pair!

Surely the huge can of shaving foam would sink.  At least that's what most of us thought, but guess what.  It floated!

Let's do some more watery experiments.  They're fun

Waterproof investigations

We had fun finding things in the classroom and around the school that were waterproof.
When we used the sprayer the water always ran off anything that was waterproof

Thank goodness the sink is waterproof.

I wonder why the water doesn't soak through

Guinea Pigs

Last week we had a visit from Erin's mum with two new additions to their family. We were all very  happy to meet the pet Guinea Pigs.

Stickman

We read the book "Stickman" by Julia Donaldson, and decided we would make our own stickmen.
We joined up with class 1C, 1A and Class 2 and took our stickmen on an adventure to Muddisdale.
We wrote some stories about what our stickmen got up to on their travels.

Gymnastics Fun

So far this term we have been learning some gymnastics skills.  It was really exciting when Mrs Cromarty put out all the large apparatus for us to work on.  It can be a bit scary at times and that's just for the teachers!  Some of us are very brave and climb up high but we always remember to hold on and take our time.

Burns Baking

We have been learning about weighing and measure.

Today we used scales to weigh out the ingredients to make our own version of Scottish Cranachan and Shortbread. These puddings are usually eaten at the end of a Burn's Supper. Traditionally Cranachan is made using Whisky but we used Orange Juice in our recipe instead.

Here is the link to the website we used at to find the recipes if you want to try to make some of your own.

Feed the birds

We have been learning how to identify some of the birds that visit our gardens.
Did you know that the female blackbird isn't black at all, but brown?

We were shown how to make special meals for the birds.  Some birds like to eat fruit, some like seeds, and some like to eat things like slugs, worms and insects.

It was fun making goodies for the birds.  Now we will need to find a safe place to put these treats.  I wonder what the birds will think of our efforts.
